About the role:

The mission of the CRUK National Biomarker Centre (NBC) is to discover, develop, validate and qualify biomarkers that facilitate optimised treatment of patients with cancer. We are seeking an innovative and effective Communications and Engagement Officer to join our Centre and lead our efforts to enhance the visibility of our research and amplify awareness of the Centre’s capabilities and scientific excellence.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a globally recognised, patient facing cancer research centre focussed on improving cancer outcomes. You will play a key role in shaping how we communicate our research. You will strengthen the Centre’s profile nationally and internationally by developing engaging, high-quality content that showcases our research our capabilities and our impact to encourage new collaborations and uplift fundraising so that we can do more, faster to achieve our goals.

As Communications and Engagement Officer, you will work closely with the Centre’s leadership and wider scientific community to elevate the Centre’s profile through creative, impactful communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver impactful communications and research engagement activity for the NBC.
  • Create absorbing content for the NBC website, social media, blogs, case studies and other channels.
  • Manage and expand the NBC digital presence across relevant platforms.
  • Produce multimedia content, including video, to support storytelling and engagement.
  • Coordinate outreach and engagement activity that increases awareness and understanding of the NBC research.
  • Liaise with relevant press officers locally and nationally to put NBC research front and centre wherever appropriate.
  • Evaluate the impact of communicating NBC activity.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues responsible for communication across the Manchester cancer research ecosystem that bridges basic discovery, translational and clinical studies (including the CRUK Manchester Institute, Manchester Cancer Research Centre, University of Manchester Division of Cancer Science and Christie NHS Foundation Trust) to deliver impactful shared stories and campaigns.

About you:

You will be a creative and organised communications professional with excellent writing skills and the ability to turn complex scientific information into clear, compelling content for a variety of audiences. You will be confident managing multiple priorities, building relationships with stakeholders and working collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment. You will have a degree in biosciences, communications, marketing, journalism or a related field OR equivalent relevant experience, together with experience in science-related communications.
