Applications are now invited for the position of Lecturer in Irish Studies, Specific-Purpose Contract (A) Post (0.5 FTE), at the University of Galway, with a specialisation in Modern Irish Culture Studies. The Discipline of Irish Studies within the School of Geography, Archaeology and Irish Studies offers a dynamic and ambitious range of programmes across the university campus and beyond. From the Online Diploma in Irish Studies, undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, to our flagship Study Abroad Programmes, the Centre is looking to build and expand on 26 years of interdisciplinary and bilingual research, teaching and public engagement as part of the next phase of its development.
The successful candidate will be an interdisciplinary scholar with a track record of, or strong potential for, internationally recognised teaching and research in Irish Studies and key cognate disciplines. They should demonstrate the capacity to develop interdisciplinary collaborations and funding opportunities and positively augment the Centre’s strong national and international profile. We particularly welcome applicants who can contribute to teaching, research and public engagement in bilingual and interdisciplinary contexts across the broad field of Modern Irish Culture Studies, complementing our current expertise in Modern Irish Literatures, Irish Music Studies and Irish Culture Studies more broadly.
As a Lecturer A appointment, the successful candidate will teach across our Irish Studies programmes, with a particular responsibility for the coordination of our International Study Abroad Programmes, working closely with University offices and our international partners. They will develop an innovative teaching portfolio and research agenda, contribute to the administration and development of the Discipline and School, while aligning with Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategies and Sustainability values at the University of Galway.
