Enterprise Data Architect

The University of Manchester, one of the UK’s leading research universities, is looking to recruit an Enterprise Data Architect. The role will sit within IT Services, a division that is passionate about driving digital transformation to support our Manchester 2035 strategy. Reporting to the Director – Architecture, you will join a high-performing team that works collaboratively and is focused on delivering real impact across the institution.

This is a strategic leadership role shaping how the University designs, manages and uses its data to support decision-making, performance and long-term strategy. You will play a central role in strengthening our data foundations and enabling consistent insight, advanced analytics, AI and automation across teaching, research and operations.

You will lead the design and delivery of enterprise-wide data architecture, creating a unified, trusted view of institutional data. This includes defining data models across conceptual, logical and application layers, and establishing the standards, frameworks and governance required to ensure data is secure, well-managed and reusable.

Working across faculties, research, teaching and professional services, you will establish clear ownership, governance and accountability for institutional data. You will act as the University’s authority on how core data is defined, managed and shared, ensuring it supports high-quality insight, reporting and regulatory assurance.

You will contribute to the development of an enterprise Data Hub, ensuring alignment with architectural principles and enabling consistent, authoritative data to underpin decision-making. Alongside this, you will build strong partnerships with academic, professional services and IT leaders to embed a collaborative and consistent approach to data architecture and data use across the University.

As a recognised expert, you will champion best practice in enterprise data architecture, influence senior stakeholders and help build organisational capability in data literacy, governance and design.

If you are a strategic data leader with a passion for enabling change through robust architecture and trusted data, we would be delighted to hear from you.

We welcome candidates who bring diverse perspectives, experiences and approaches to their work.
