The Department of Psychology invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Psychology, to be taken up from 1 September 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The role holder will be an academic in an area of Psychology, with proven experience of development and delivery of teaching at higher or further education level, as well as academic interest and professional experience in the development of inclusive teaching practice in Psychology.
Applicants must have a PhD degree in a relevant subject and strong evidence of teaching excellence and have developed inclusive practices towards their own teaching provision. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term basis for two years, subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period of one year. The post is based in central Cambridge.
The successful candidate will deliver a two-year pilot project aimed at improving students understanding of the learning objectives of the Psychology and Behavioural Science degree at Cambridge. This will include a focus on ensuring that the transition to university is as inclusive as possible, especially for students who come from schooling backgrounds that have emphasized rote learning of set material, rather than critical independent thinking. The first year of the project will focus on reviewing the learning objectives of 1st and 2nd year undergraduate courses, and assessing students understanding of them. The second year will focus on courses borrowed from the Natural Sciences Tripos in Biology, thus a key part of this work is interdisciplinary and collaborative.
Information about the Department, its teaching, and the research interests of members of staff can be found at www.psychol.cam.ac.uk.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
