The role
Sheffield Institute of Education (SIoE) offers sector leading initial teacher training in early years, primary, secondary and post-16 and we are rated outstanding in all four areas by Ofsted. We are currently looking for applications for the Secondary Education area of our provision with a specialism in History. The History provision develops trainees to teach across Key Stage 3 and 4, with opportunities to engage with post-16 teaching and enrichment.
The successful applicant will teach PGCE Secondary History with QTS. The role will include responsibility for the teaching, learning and assessment of students at postgraduate level, alongside working collaboratively with our partnership schools to support trainee placement experiences. The post holder will contribute to delivering a high-quality curriculum that supports trainees in developing strong subject knowledge, pedagogical understanding, and reflective practice in History education.
Staff members often teach across our provision. The successful candidate may also be asked to contribute to Primary Initial Teacher Training (ITT), including teaching History within undergraduate and postgraduate Primary provision, as well as to other related teaching at Masters or Undergraduate level, undertaking school visits, and providing academic advising.
We encourage staff to continue to develop their own research and scholarly profile, particularly in areas related to History education, curriculum development, or teacher education. There are a range of opportunities and support mechanisms available to enable all academic staff to engage in research, knowledge exchange, and professional practice.
