Salary: Research Grade 7: Salary in range £37,694 - £41,636 per annum (pro rata). This is inclusive of a pensionable Oxford University Weighting of £1,730 per year (pro rata)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join the newly established Oxford-GSK Institute of Molecular and Computational Medicine (IMCM), a pioneering partnership between the University of Oxford and GSK. Based within the Fowler Group at the Centre for Human Genetics, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative research investigating the mechanisms of protein aggregation and spread in neurodegenerative diseases. Working across the University of Oxford and the Rosalind Franklin Institute, you will help advance our understanding of human disease while supporting the development of future therapeutics.

You will investigate the subcellular localisation, structural diversity and molecular composition of pathological protein assemblies using cutting-edge structural biology and imaging techniques, including cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) and focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM). The role includes maintaining advanced neuronal and glial cell culture models, generating and analysing high-quality experimental data, collaborating with multidisciplinary academic and industry partners, presenting research findings, contributing to publications and grant development, and supporting the ongoing advancement of translational neuroscience research.

It is essential that you hold, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in Structural Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Genetics/Genomics, or a related discipline. You will have experience in electron microscopy techniques, mammalian cell culture, and scientific data analysis, together with excellent communication and collaborative working skills. Experience in neurodegeneration, iPSC-derived neuronal cultures, cryo-ET, FIB-SEM, or protein aggregation research would be advantageous. We are looking for a motivated researcher who enjoys working across disciplines and is keen to contribute to an ambitious academic-industry collaboration

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

This position is offered full time on a fixed term contract until 31 August 2028 and is funded by GSK
