Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 3rd July 2026
Closes: 19th July 2026

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Library Research Data Service as Research Data Librarian. You will contribute to a well-established service and gain experience supporting research data management and open research practices in a research-intensive environment.

About the role

Reporting to the Senior Data Librarian and working as part of a team, you will deliver guidance, training, and expert advice to researchers across disciplines, helping them manage their data throughout the research lifecycle, including storing, managing, securing, sharing, and preserving research data at the University.

This role sits within a strategically important area of the University’s research infrastructure and its commitment to fostering a culture of open research. You will play a key role in supporting funder compliance, promoting open data practices, and enhancing the visibility and impact of research data in the University’s Research Data Archive through light-touch curation. You will support researchers as they write Data Management Plans, determine appropriate storage for their projects, and publish their data.

You will also contribute to ongoing projects and broader open research initiatives across the University, working with researchers and other research support staff to advance Bath’s research culture.

We understand the importance of continued professional development for all Library staff. You will benefit from the programme of local opportunities we provide and our support for your involvement in appropriate external activities.

About you

We are looking for a collaborative and adaptable individual who can quickly build relationships and contribute effectively. You will bring relevant experience and a proactive approach, helping to sustain and enhance services.

You will have:

  • Experience providing guidance and support for data management, open research, the research life cycle, or other research activities.
  • An understanding of the UK’s research environment, including UK, EU, and other major funders’ policies and requirements in higher education.
  • Experience of engaging with academic staff, researchers, or similar stakeholders and working effectively to address their needs.
  • Confidence and credibility in delivering training online and in-person, and the ability to contribute clearly to the development and maintenance of written guidance.
  • Proactive initiative, self-motivation, and a proven ability to manage projects, build relationships, and respond to users’ needs effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and liaise across teams and departments to deliver relevant and trusted guidance, training, and advice.
  • Good organisation, attention to detail, especially in regard to data curation and the accuracy of metadata.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Digitally literate and confident with M365 apps (Word, Excel, OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint).
  • Educated to degree level or hold an equivalent qualification and further relevant qualifications or higher degree.

You will join a dedicated, professional team of Library staff committed to the continual development of services to support the University’s mission: to deliver world-class research and teaching, educate our students to become future leaders and innovators, and benefit the wider population through the University’s research, enterprise and influence.
