About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Bioinformatics to join our research group. The successful candidate will undertake bioinformatic research in sympathetic neuroscience and further develop analytical pipelines pioneered in the laboratory, including Topometry-based approaches, to expand and integrate single-cell atlases.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver bioinformatic analyses and support research projects within the group.
  • Develop, optimise and maintain bioinformatic workflows using Python and related tools.
  • Work independently with existing transcriptomic analysis pipelines and contribute to the development of new methodologies.
  • Manage research activities, including coordinating multiple aspects of projects to meet deadlines.
  • Analyse complex scientific datasets and refine research hypotheses.
  • Contribute to grant applications and the development of new research opportunities.
  • Prepare scientific reports, publications and presentations, including leading first-author publications.
  • Collaborate with researchers within Oxford and partner institutions.
  • Represent the research group at meetings, seminars and conferences.

Selection criteria

You will:

  • Hold, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in Bioinformatics or a related discipline.
  • Have experience programming in Python and R.
  • Have experience with single-cell sequencing analysis workflows.
  • Demonstrate a strong publication record, including first-author papers involving single-cell sequencing analysis.
  • Possess sufficient knowledge of neuroscience to contribute to established research programmes.
  • Be able to manage your own research and associated activities effectively.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop new research ideas and contribute to funding applications.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
