Oxford Population Health (Nuffield Department of Population Health) contains world-renowned population health research groups and provides an excellent environment for multi-disciplinary research and teaching. The China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) Study is a uniquely rich and powerful global resource for investigating the environmental and genetic determinants of common chronic diseases.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Infrastructure & Platform Engineer to join the CKB team based at the Big Data Institute in Oxford. We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on infrastructure engineer to take ownership of a complex, distributed, and operationally critical on-premises platform that supports business applications, databases, internal users, and external-facing services.
The role offers a unique opportunity to take ownership of a fully integrated infrastructure stack spanning compute and virtualisation, networking and connectivity, application platforms, databases, security layers, file systems and backups, and multi-site operations.
To be considered for the Infrastructure & Platform Engineer position, you will have a bachelor degree in computing, a numerate discipline, or a relevant subject. You will also have substantial experience as an Infrastructure & Platform Engineer with strong technical knowledge of networking and infrastructure technologies, including TCP/IP networking, troubleshooting, virtualisation platforms (e.g. KVM or equivalent), and the operation of complex server environments. Excellent communication and organisational skills are also essential for this role.
The position is full time and fixed term until 31 July 2028. The closing date for applications is noon on 5 August 2026, with interviews likely to take place at the beginning of September 2026.
You will be required to upload a CV and a Supporting Statement as part of your online application. The Supporting Statement should include a cover letter and should also clearly describe how you meet each of the selection criteria listed in the job description.
