The Fitzwilliam Museum: Opening up the past to transform our futures.

The Hamilton Kerr Institute (HKI) is one of the world's leading centres for teaching and research in conservation and heritage science.
We invite applicants for the role of Building Services Technician to carry out basic internal and external repairs and alterations to the fabric of the departments building(s) to support the day-to-day upkeep of Department facilities for the Fitzwilliam Museum and HKI.
The successful candidate will accompany site teams comprising various building trade and maintenance contractors to who may be undertaking, emergency repairs, major repairs and alterations and new installations.
You will carry out site surveys on behalf of the Facilities Manager to provide information for forward planning, costing and feasibility purposes. You will liaise with the Facilities Manager on all matters relating to Health and Safety in relation to workplaces, equipment and work practices, ensuring that adequate safety measures are in place and colleagues follow guidelines laid down.
You will undertake general maintenance and repair duties. Basic construction painting, alterations and repairs throughout the buildings using most kinds of plaster, board materials, bricks, blocks, pavers and other masonry/building materials.
You will take responsibility for the good order of the tools and equipment used in the section, including responsibility of the work environment and machinery cleaning and routine maintenance of the machinery. You may occasionally be required to explain operating and maintenance procedures to team members and/or others.
You will maintain and repair fabric of the building(s), and complete identified remedial action required. You will collect materials from stores and/or suppliers as required by the Facilities Manager. You will maintain and repair departmental equipment/fixtures, inspect the grounds and clear any contractors' debris/leaves, inspect roofs. You will keep departmental staff aware of job progress at all times, report on the completion of each job, where necessary, particularly in respect to any follow up actions that may be required.
You will assist with loading and unloading of deliveries, including large, bulky and heavy items move materials, furniture, deliveries across the department, source supplies, collect materials from local suppliers, builders merchants etc.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
