About the Role
Informal Queries
This role provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic or industry practitioner to contribute to the delivery of Robotics and Automation education within WMG.
The successful candidate will provide subject-specialist teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supporting student learning through innovative teaching, assessment, project supervision, and industry-informed practice in areas such as robotics, automation, autonomous systems, control, and intelligent manufacturing. The role also offers opportunities to contribute to curriculum development, student support, laboratory-based teaching, and wider WMG activities.
The postholder will join a collaborative academic community committed to excellence in teaching, professional development, and enhancing the student experience while preparing graduates with the knowledge and practical skills required for the rapidly evolving fields of robotics and automation.
About You
The ideal candidate will have experience of teaching and/or practising Robotics and Automation, with expertise in areas such as robotic systems, industrial automation, control engineering, autonomous systems, mechatronics, and the integration of robotics within modern manufacturing and industrial environments. Experience in areas such as robotic programming, industrial robot operation, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors and actuators, machine vision, collaborative robotics, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), digital manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 technologies would be highly desirable.
We welcome candidates who can contribute effectively from the outset while continuing to develop their expertise in robotics education, automation technologies, intelligent systems, and advanced manufacturing. The role requires a commitment to delivering practice-based learning that reflects current industrial developments in robotics, automation, and smart manufacturing, enabling students to develop both theoretical knowledge and hands-on technical skills.
Candidates will need to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and support students from diverse backgrounds. Strong organisational skills, effective time management, and the ability to manage a varied portfolio of teaching, assessment, laboratory activities, project supervision, and administrative responsibilities are essential.
