The role

Join us at an exciting moment as we open the new Sloane Robinson Building at the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, next to Temple Meads station, and create new opportunities for collaboration between the University, communities, businesses and the public sector.

We are looking for 2 Front of House hosts to welcome visitors to our Civic Spaces, Bristol Rooms and Story Exchange, helping everyone feel at home, whether they are familiar with a university environment or visiting for the first time.

More than a traditional reception role, we are looking for a place-maker: someone who enjoys bringing people together, creating welcoming spaces and supporting a Civic team focused on tackling shared societal challenges through collaboration.

What will you be doing?

This role would suit someone who:

  • Enjoys meeting and helping new people
  • Is interested in learning more about how the University works, and its place within wider networks and communities
  • Takes pride in creating welcoming, well-prepared spaces
  • Is happy carrying out practical tasks such as arranging rooms and moving tables and chairs for events and workshops
  • Is comfortable with administration, including bookings, event support and general office tasks.

The post-holder will be based primarily in the Sloane Robinson Building and will also spend some time supporting our two micro-campuses in Barton Hill, and Hartcliffe and Withywood. Across all locations, you will play an important role in welcoming visitors, preparing spaces for teaching and events, and providing administrative support.

Please note that this is an on-site role. As the role involves supporting our civic spaces in person, hybrid working is not available.

You should apply if

  • You have experience in a busy customer-facing, hospitality, front of house or reception role.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Are confident using IT systems and can manage bookings, emails and basic data entry.
  • Are well organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Are a confident communicator who can build positive relationships and handle situations with tact and professionalism.
  • Can work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team in a busy environment.

For full details of the responsibilities and requirements of the role, please refer to the attached job description.
