The University of Aberdeen is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Security Operations Manager within the Estates and Commercial Services Directorate to be responsible for the operational management of the university security team and delivery of effective security operations across the university buildings and campuses.
The successful candidate will work core dayshift hours Monday – Friday but must be flexible in their approach to working other days and hours based on operational requirements. In addition to managing the security team and daily security operations, the post holder will have responsibility for ensuring appropriate resources are deployed to deal with day to day operations and events, the operational functionality of the Security Control Room and it’s various systems including CCTV and alarm monitoring, and also responding to, and where appropriate attending incidents, taking the lead and liaising with university or third party representatives, including the emergency services. Other duties will include responsibility for Health and Safety and a range of training within the security team. With the introduction of the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly known as ‘Martyn’s Law’, the post holder will play a pivotal role in supporting the Facilities management team during project work as the university works towards and maintains compliance with this key legislation. This key support work will include carrying out building and event counter terrorism threat and risk assessments, delivering briefings and supporting building users in Martyn’s Law related training and procedures.
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must hold a full UK Driving Licence (held for at least 1 year) and be proficient in a range of IT software applications. Experience in managing or supervising a team, delivering effective and pro-active customer service and strong written and communication skills are essential, whilst knowledge and experience of the security and Higher Education sectors and knowledge of CCTV and alarm systems are desirable. Salary will be at an appropriate point on the Grade 6 scale (£38,784 - £46,049 per annum).
