About us

UCL’s Department of Computer Science (CS) is a top-ranked Computer Science Department in the UK. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) evaluation, UCL Computer Science was ranked second in the UK for research power and first in England.

The successful candidate will join UCL Computer Science and be embedded within the multidisciplinary UCL Hawkes Institute, working in the Surgical Robot Vision research environment. The role is aligned with the EPSRC OASIS Hub and will contribute to research in AI for advanced endoscopic imaging and computational imaging for interventional healthcare.

About the role

The post will contribute to the 12-month POLARIS-AI OASIS pump-priming project, developing AI methods for advanced endoscopic imaging, with polarisation-resolved endoscopy as the initial imaging modality.

The postholder will develop computational pipelines and AI models for multimodal image reconstruction, enhancement, fusion and validation. They will also contribute to benchmarking and evaluation of the developed methods using relevant imaging datasets and downstream computer vision tasks.

The salary range for this role is £45,103 - £49,943

This is a fixed term role until 31st August 2027 in the first instance.

About you

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent research experience in computer vision, machine learning, computational imaging, surgical data science, biomedical engineering, medical image computing or a closely related discipline. They should have strong knowledge of AI, computer vision and deep learning methods relevant to imaging, together with programming experience using modern scientific computing tools such as Python and PyTorch or TensorFlow. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary research environment spanning computer science, engineering, imaging science and clinical or translational research.
