The NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East of England is a regional research partnership that brings together universities, health and social care providers, local authorities, charities, patient led organisations and industry partners to deliver high quality applied research across the East of England. Its mission is to strengthen the evidence base for health and social care, improve services, and ensure research addresses the needs of local communities. ARC East of England supports collaborative, interdisciplinary work that directly informs practice, builds research capacity, and accelerates the implementation of evidence into real world settings.

The collaboration contributes to national and regional priorities by generating research that tackles health inequalities, supports prevention and early detection, enhances mental health outcomes, and improves care for ageing populations and those living with long term conditions. ARC East of England works closely with Integrated Care Systems and a wide range of stakeholders to promote meaningful public involvement and ensure that research reflects the lived experiences of individuals and communities across the region.

The role will be based at Essex Business School, University of Essex, working closely with colleagues across five University partners (Anglia Ruskin University, University of Cambridge, University of East Anglia, University of Essex, and University of Hertfordshire) who contribute to ARC themes and the wider regional research and improvement community.

Duties of the Role
The Research Impact Officer will work with academics and KM and Implementation workstream colleagues from across the ARC East of England to contribute to the understanding, development, and promotion of research impact; to support the development and implementation of processes to capture, evaluate, and communicate the impact of the ARC’s research; and to support the preparation of impact case studies for reporting to NIHR.

A full list of duties and responsibilities can be found within the job pack.

Skills and qualifications
Educated to Master’s level (or equivalent experience) or above, you will have strong communication skills (written and verbal) combined with an ability to interpret and articulate complex guidelines.

You will have a good understanding of the NIHR research impact agenda, and how impact is assessed in grant reporting, a strong understanding of knowledge mobilisation and implementation and an appreciation for the different ways in which research can benefit the economy, society, and the environment.

You will have the ability to confidently communicate and work collaboratively with individuals of all levels internally and externally, including academic and professional services staff and external stakeholders. With highly developed administrative, organisational and project management skills, you will also have a problem solving and solution orientated approach and the ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines in a busy and demanding environment.

In addition, you will have a proactive and enthusiastic approach, the ability to use your own initiative and work alone or as part of a wider team.

This is a fixed-term, part-time contract until 31 March 2031.
