Introduction to YSJ
York St John is an ambitious, modern university located in the historic heart of York, and there has never been a more exciting time to join us.
As one of the fastest-growing universities in the U.K. in recent years, we have a new strategy for the next decade, emphasising our commitment to widening opportunities through education and contributing our talents to create a fairer world and a more prosperous region. We are placing inspirational learning and impactful research at the centre of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset.
The school
With nearly 50 years of excellence in Occupational Therapy education (established in 1977), the university is proud to be home to one of the UK’s most established and respected programmes. Occupational Therapy sits within the School of Health Sciences, a dynamic academic community offering a broad portfolio of pre-registration, accredited programmes, including Adult Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Diagnostic Radiotherapy, Mental Health Nursing, Midwifery, Operating Department Practice, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy. This rich blend of disciplines creates a vibrant and collaborative learning environment, providing excellent opportunities for interprofessional education that reflects the person-centred and patient-focused nature of contemporary healthcare. Staff and students benefit from state-of-the-art teaching and learning facilities designed to support innovative educational approaches and simulation-based learning.
The role
We are seeking two enthusiastic and forward-thinking Occupational Therapists to join our well-established academic team within the School of Health Sciences. The postholders will play a key role in teaching, curriculum development, and academic administration within the BSc and MSc Occupational Therapy programmes, shaping the delivery of high‑quality Occupational Therapy education for the next generation of practitioners.
The role requires a strong commitment to inclusive teaching, student support and continuous professional development. The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to deliver teaching across a breadth and depth of occupational therapy topics, reflecting occupation-centred, evidence-based and person-centred care.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape curriculum development, inspire learners, and contribute to a supportive academic community committed to excellence in teaching, research, and professional practice.
Key requirements
Successful candidates will have contemporary knowledge and experience in occupational therapy and hold current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as an Occupational Therapist. A master’s qualification is essential for the postholder to contribute meaningfully to teaching and learning and to research supervision across both pre-registration programmes.
Strong organisational, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills are essential for both roles.
For Senior Lecturer appointments, evidence of research leadership, a successful publication record, curriculum leadership, module coordination, and experience supervising research students is expected.
