About the role
The post holder will be a member of a dynamic and growing research group under the supervision of Associate Professor Paul Elliott in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Oxford. The postholder will be responsible for managing an independent project investigating the mechanisms of FAT10ylation, a poorly understood form of post-translational modification. The post holder is expected to provide guidance and support within the research group to fellow postdocs, DPhil students and undergraduate project students, maintaining a strong collegiate environment.
This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Cancer Research UK for up to 12 months in the first instance.
The actual starting salary offered will be based on qualifications and relevant skills acquired and will also be determined by the funding available.
About you
You will hold a PhD/DPhil and have a strong background in protein expression and purification techniques, together with a thorough understanding of the ubiquitin system and practical experience performing in vitro ubiquitination assays. You will demonstrate expertise in at least one structural biology approach, including X-ray, NMR, or cryoEM, alongside proven experience of mammalian cell culture techniques. You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals and maintain accurate and detailed records. You will be a collaborative researcher with excellent interpersonal skills, able to work with colleagues and students. Experience using CRISPR/Cas9 systems to translate structural findings into mammalian cell-based assays, a strong background in E3 ubiquitin ligases, and the use of biophysical techniques to investigate protein-protein interactions and complex stoichiometry would be advantageous.
