Imperial Business School invites applications for up to two Research Assistant (RA) positions to support academic research in Economics and Finance.

Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to research and academic excellence. Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline prior to commencing the role. Master’s degrees will be considered favourably.

The successful candidate will work closely with faculty in the Finance Department, contributing directly to research projects related to ongoing initiatives with the Centre for Sectorial Economic Performance. This position is ideally suited to candidates intending to apply to leading Masters or PhD programmes in finance or economics and seeking exposure to a high-impact academic research environment before doing so.

What you would be doing

As a Research Assistant, you will play an active role in supporting both research activities within the Finance Department. Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting faculty research projects, including data collection and analysis
  • Working with large datasets using statistical software such as Stata, R, or Python
  • Collaborating closely with academic staff across research initiatives
  • Developing your own research capability within a high-performing academic environment

What we are looking for

We are seeking motivated and academically strong candidates with a clear commitment to research and higher education.

You should have:

  • Bachelors degree (essential) and desirably a Masters (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g. finance, economics, or related field)
  • Experience working with large datasets using statistical software (e.g. Stata, R or Python)
  • Strong subject knowledge in a relevant area (economics or finance)
  • Strong grasp of research methods and statistical techniques, including working with and large datasets
  • Ability to apply and develop new concepts effectively
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Excellent written communications skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise work
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organisation skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines

Further information

This is a full time, fixed term position for 12 months based at South Kensington Campus (hybrid), with the possibility of extending the contract for an additional 12 months.
