The Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine and Somerville College intend to appoint to the May Professorship of Medicine with effect from September 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. This statutory professorship is one of the University's most senior clinical academic appointments and offers an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of clinical medicine at Oxford. The successful candidate will also hold a Professorial Fellowship at Somerville College.

As May Professor, you will provide strategic leadership across the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, one of Europe's largest and most successful biomedical research departments, bringing together world-leading basic, translational and clinical science to improve human health globally. Working alongside the Nuffield Professor of Clinical Medicine, you will help shape the Department's strategic direction by developing internationally leading patient-based research programmes and strengthening partnerships across academia, the NHS, industry, charities and global health organisations. You will also play a key role in advancing Oxford's internationally recognised strengths in translational medicine, supporting research across the Department's extensive programmes in Oxford and its overseas units.

You will lead an internationally competitive programme of research, secure substantial external funding, and influence the future direction of one of the world's foremost centres for clinical medicine. You are an internationally recognised clinical academic with an outstanding record of research achievement, substantial experience of academic leadership, and a proven ability to build major research programmes and strategic partnerships. You combine excellence in clinical practice, research and education with the vision to inspire others and shape the future of clinical medicine at Oxford and internationally. To undertake this role, you must be medically qualified, GMC specialist registered (or equivalent), and eligible to hold an honorary consultant appointment with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine and Somerville College are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcome applications from candidates currently underrepresented in senior academic leadership roles, particularly women, candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled candidates, and those with diverse experiences and perspectives.
