The Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and Green Templeton College intend to appoint to the Professorship of Primary Care Health Sciences with effect from 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. This senior clinical academic appointment offers an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of primary care research, education and policy within one of the world's leading departments of primary care health sciences. The successful candidate will also become a Senior Fellow of Green Templeton College.

As Professor of Primary Care Health Sciences, you will provide academic leadership within a department recognised internationally for the quality and impact of its research, its interdisciplinary and inter-professional approach, and its commitment to improving health and healthcare delivery locally, nationally and globally. You will help shape the Department's strategic direction by leading innovative research that addresses the major challenges facing health systems, with particular opportunities to advance research into mental health in primary care and community settings. Working collaboratively across disciplines and sectors, you will strengthen partnerships with healthcare providers, policymakers and international collaborators to deliver research with meaningful real-world impact.

You will lead an internationally competitive programme of research, secure substantial external funding, and contribute to the strategic development of one of the world's foremost centres for primary care research. You are an internationally recognised academic leader with an outstanding record of research achievement, substantial success in securing competitive research funding, and experience of leading ambitious interdisciplinary research programmes. You combine excellence in research, education and mentorship with the vision to influence health policy and improve patient care through primary care research. Experience of mental health research and international health would be particularly welcome.

This is a clinical academic appointment. You must be medically qualified and eligible to practise as a General Practitioner or NHS Consultant in the United Kingdom, or be willing to obtain UK registration. Applicants should be Members or Fellows of the relevant Royal College, or equivalent, and will be expected to maintain an honorary consultant contract, or equivalent, throughout the appointment. International candidates are encouraged to apply and will be supported in obtaining UK registration where required.

The Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and Green Templeton College are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcome applications from candidates currently underrepresented in senior academic roles, particularly women, candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled candidates, and those with diverse experiences and perspectives.

For an informal and confidential discussion about the post, please contact Professor Sir Aziz Sheikh (aziz.sheikh@phc.ox.ac.uk) or Professor Catherine Pope (catherine.pope@phc.ox.ac.uk). All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence and will not form part of the selection process.
