Main duties and responsibilities

The Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking pharmacist to join our academic team and play a key role in preparing pharmacy students for contemporary clinical practice and prescribing responsibilities. This is an exciting opportunity to bring current prescribing experience directly into the classroom, clinical skills and simulated practice environments.

You will help students develop the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours required for safe and effective prescribing. You will contribute to teaching across our MPharm programme, supporting students to build competence in clinical assessment, consultation skills, clinical reasoning, therapeutic decision-making, interpretation of patient records and investigations, shared decision-making, and safe prescribing practice. You will shape the future pharmacy workforce by bringing real-world prescribing expertise into pharmacy education and helping students develop into confident, patient-centred clinicians.

Working within a supportive and innovative team, you will deliver undergraduate teaching, facilitate clinical skills and prescribing workshops, support assessment and curriculum development, and provide academic and professional support to students.

Faculty / Directorate

Home to four specialist schools—Allied Health Sciences, Applied Social Sciences, Nursing and Midwifery, and the Leicester School of Pharmacy—the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences educates professionals who make a significant difference to health, wellbeing and society.

With a history of pharmacy education spanning more than 100 years, the Leicester School of Pharmacy is one of the UK's most established and respected schools of pharmacy. Our teaching reflects the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy practice, and our graduates progress into roles with leading employers including the NHS, Boots, Sanofi and the Ministry of Defence.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will be a registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and a qualified Independent Prescriber who is actively prescribing within their current clinical role. You will be able to draw upon your own prescribing practice to bring authentic, patient-focused examples into your teaching.

You will be committed to supporting students in applying evidence-based medicine to clinical practice and understanding the professional responsibilities, governance and accountability associated with prescribing.

While experience of teaching in Higher Education is desirable, it is not essential. We welcome applicants who are enthusiastic about education and willing to develop their teaching expertise. This is an exciting opportunity to influence pharmacy education and make a meaningful contribution to the future of the profession.
