Location: South Parks Road, Oxford
We are seeking to appoint a talented and ambitious Research Assistant to join the Hinch Group at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford. The successful candidate will develop machine learning approaches to investigate the mechanisms underlying GC-biased gene conversion and understand how meiotic recombination shapes human genetic variation and genome evolution. Working closely with members of the research group, you will analyse large-scale genomic datasets and develop computational methods to address fundamental questions in human genetics and molecular evolution.
You should have completed the requirements for a first degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, computational biology or a related quantitative discipline before taking up the appointment. You should have experience applying machine learning methods to biological or genomic data, strong programming skills (preferably in Python and/or R), and an understanding of population genetics and GC-biased gene conversion. You will be able to manage your own research activities while working effectively within a collaborative research environment.
