This project brings together teams from Queen Mary University of London, University College London, University of Cambridge, University of Glasgow, Heriot-Watt University, and Imperial College London and aims to deliver transformative advancements in 3D nanoscale metamaterials by addressing critical challenges in energy-intensive applications such as integrated circuits, data centres, renewable energy systems, and the Internet of Things.
About the role
The Research Fellow in Computational Electromagnetics will be responsible for developing theoretical models and high-performance computer codes for modelling the interaction between electromagnetic waves and dielectric and plasmonic nano-structures. The Research Fellow will be part of Photonics Group, and work under Prof. Nicolae Panoiu supervision. The following is indicative of the duties and responsibilities associated with this post:
The post is available for 19.5 months in the first instance. Further funding to support the post may be available.
About you
A first degree in electrical engineering, physics, or applied mathematics and significant research experience in the area of theoretical and computational electromagnetics is required for this post. The candidate should have expert knowledge of one or more computational electromagnetics methods, including finite-difference time-domain method, finite-element methods in frequency and time domains, plane-wave expansion methods, multiple-scattering matrix method, and boundary integral methods. Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant subject. They should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to present technical information effectively to a range of audiences.
Knowledge of quantum and nonlinear optics is desirable, as well as knowledge of deep learning techniques pertaining to computational electromagnetics.
If the successful candidate has not yet been awarded their PhD, appointment will be made as a Research Assistant (Grade 6B). Payment at Grade 7 will be backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis including corrections, once the PhD has been awarded.
