Can you provide technical support to a research project in digital diagnostics? Are you looking to broaden your horizons and contribute to a project with a commercial and translational edge?

This technical post is an exciting and unique opportunity in the Women’s Health Research Group that will involve assisting our programme of research focussed on using artificial intelligence for computer-aided diagnostics in clinical histopathology. The project focuses on the development and application of novel algorithms for the automated detection of biomarkers in endometrial cancer from histopathology images, thereby providing an adjunct diagnostic tool to clinical histopathologists. This could significantly reduce diagnostic turnaround times and analytical costs and have a meaningful impact on patient care. The work is varied, ranging from case collection, slide processing and scanning through to clinical metadata collection. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to participate in wet-laboratory procedures, including immunohistochemistry.

This industrial partnership post (with Panakeia Technologies) is embedded in a broader Innovate UK-funded programme of work, building on the team’s existing expertise in cancer biology, biomarker identification and digital pathology. With previous image and/or data handling experience, you will have effective organisational skills with an ability to manage your own workload to meet set deadlines. You must be an excellent team player with a proactive approach and the ability to work independently.

Although the post is based at the University of Leeds (St James’s University Hospital site), aspects of the work will be conducted on NHS premises. You will report to both Dr Nic Orsi (University of Leeds) and to the management team at Panakeia.

What we offer in return

  • 26 days holiday plus approx.16 Bank Holidays/days that the University is closed by custom (including Christmas) – That’s 42 days a year!
  • Generous pension scheme options plus life assurance
  • Health and Wellbeing: Discounted staff membership options at The Edge, our state-of-the-art Campus gym, with a pool, sauna, climbing wall, cycle circuit, and sports halls.
  • Personal Development: Access to courses run by our Organisational Development & Professional Learning team.  All FMH staff are entitled to ten days staff development per year (pro rata). Please speak to your Line Manager about how you can utilise these.
  • Access to on-site childcare, shopping discounts and travel schemes are also available.

And much more!
