About us
The UCL School of Management is home to UCL’s business and management research and education programmes. It has an international reputation for research and teaching in innovation management, technology-intensive organisations, business analytics and entrepreneurship. In the Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF), the School was ranked 2nd in the UK for Business and Management, with research recognised as ‘world-leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’. The School is accredited by AACSB and AMBA and is a member of the Chartered Association of Business Schools.
The School has over 2,300 students, more than half of whom are international, studying across undergraduate, postgraduate, executive and PhD programmes. Since 2025, it has been expanding through new programmes, additional academic staff and enhanced facilities at its Canary Wharf campus.
About the role
The postholder will work closely with the Principal Investigator to produce an internationally significant research output for submission to a leading peer-reviewed conference and subsequently a high-quality academic journal, while ensuring compliance with UCL policies on research integrity, data protection and research governance.
Where empirical research is undertaken, the role includes securing ethics approval, using UCL-approved data storage, and maintaining appropriate research governance. The postholder will also help organise and co-chair a research symposium or Professional Development Workshop with the PI, for example at the 2027 Academy of Management Annual Meeting.
The role includes presenting research at major international conferences, maintaining membership of relevant professional associations, undertaking national and international travel, and contributing to project reporting for the PI, IaS Project Manager, funders and ResearchFish, including reporting beyond the appointment where required. All duties must be carried out in accordance with UCL policies and regulations.
About you
You will have, or be close to completing, a PhD in management, sociology, economics, organisation theory or public policy. Candidates who have not been awarded their PhD by the start date will be appointed at Research Assistant (Grade 6B). You will demonstrate a strong interest in the two core Role Objectives outlined in the Job Description, advanced knowledge and experience of the research approach required for Role Objective 1, and the ability to develop a research plan aligned with that objective. You will also have excellent written and spoken English, evidenced through your application materials and interview.
Please refer to the Job Description, Person Specification and Candidate Guidance for full details. In your supporting statement, please explain, using examples, how you meet the essential criteria.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates who are underrepresented in our workforce, including people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled people, LGBTQI+ people, and, for Grade 9 and 10 roles, women.
