Do you want to use your scientific and commercial experience to make a difference to Sheffield? Join the Commercialisation team at the University of Sheffield!
We are recruiting for an experienced commercialisation professional to join our dedicated team as a Commercialisation Lead for engineering and physical science technologies.
We are looking for someone with a blend of engineering/physical science and commercial expertise and a motivation to cultivate exceptional spinout companies, charities, intellectual property licences and social enterprises that launch from materials, electronics, mechanical, computer and physical science research.
As one of our Commercialisation Leads for Engineering, you will be key to the University's research and innovation strategy, by supporting innovators to create globally-relevant spinouts while contributing to local job creation and regional economic growth. You will also support the transfer of technologies into established businesses to ensure rapid market adoption and use.
You will do this through providing comprehensive support to innovators through dedicated one-on-one guidance and through co-delivery of our training programs. You will further support innovators to access funding, mentorship and valuable market research resources as you guide them through their journey from idea generation to launching their commercial ventures. You will also lead commercial negotiations with third parties relating to intellectual property licences.
You will join a supportive team of 12 people but your work will create opportunities to engage with multiple parts of the university including other professional services, academic units and translational research facilities such as the AMRC. You will also routinely make contact with investors, incubators, other universities and mentors.
Our preferred candidate is someone who has a broad engineering or physical science background with senior operational or business experience within a relevant industry or university. The seniority of this role means that the ideal candidate will have direct experience of university commercialisation and bring experience of delivering spinouts and IP-licences.
The breadth of work undertaken by the commercialisation team provides excellent opportunity for professional development and previous members of the team have gone on to become spinout founders, join investment companies or secure internal promotion.
