Research Technical Professional retraining and reskilling opportunity with a Daphne Jackson RTP Fellowship hosted by Newcastle University 

The Daphne Jackson Trust has launched a new fellowship for Research Technical Professionals (RTP) who have taken a career break of at least two years for family, health or caring reasons and want to return to a technical role in research.  This fellowship offers a personalised retraining and reskilling programme for the successful applicant. 

Applications are now being invited for a Daphne Jackson RTP Fellowship in the Faculty of Medical Sciences Flow Cytometry Core Facility at Newcastle University. This could be either at one-year full time, 18-month part time at 0.75FTE or a two-year, part-time at 0.5FTE or another combination to suit the applicant. This opportunity is open to people looking to return to work within medical sciences and will be based in Newcastle upon Tyne. 

The Flow Cytometry Core Facility at Newcastle University is renowned for its expert provision of analytical flow cytometry, cell sorting and high plex imaging services and expertise across life science disciplines.

About the role 

They will work with a team of research technical professionals to provide a scientific support service to staff, students and external stakeholders in the area of flow cytometry and high plex tissue imaging. This is a highly collegiate role where the fellow will support in the operation, maintenance, user training, trouble shooting and application of the technology area.   Whilst not expected to have existing cytometry experience, the fellow will be proactive and ready to learn new technical skills in flow cytometry, high plex tissue imaging as well as supporting technologies and methodologies. 

Additionally, the fellow will play a key role in ensuring a safe, efficient and organised multi-user working environment, ensuring quality control tasks are completed and resources are monitored. 

They will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work with a high degree of organisation whilst retaining flexibility to react to the queries and needs of the service users and facility management.

Please note that for this re-training Research Technical Professional Fellowship a PhD is not essential (minimum requirement BTEC HNC/HND or equivalent in relevant biological sciences subject area).
