Do you have the specialist wellbeing expertise to support students following disclosures of complex and sensitive issues?

The Specialist Wellbeing Adviser sits within the Specialist Support and Welfare team in Student Mental Health, Welfare and Wellbeing. Working with the Specialist Wellbeing and Welfare Manager, you will provide specialist emotional and practical support to students on the Canterbury and Medway campuses, particularly in relation to sexual misconduct, hate incidents and discrimination, spiking, domestic abuse, stalking, harassment and bullying.

As Specialist Wellbeing Adviser you can expect to be involved in:

  • To offer specialist advice and support to students who have experienced sexual misconduct, harassment, bullying, domestic abuse, discrimination, spiking, stalking or hate incidents, including advice and support on accessing emotional and practical support engaging with external services as they require.
  • To provide guidance to students who may wish to raise their case formally, through University Complaints Procedures or referral to the Police.
  • To offer specialist advice and support to students experiencing a wide range of either pre-existing mental health difficulties that arise following an incident, this includes external liaison where needed.
  • To complete risk assessments for students following serious assaults or in abusive domestic violence settings. 

What will you bring to the role?

  • Experience of offering support and advice to those who have experienced sexual misconduct, harassment, bullying, domestic abuse, discrimination, spiking, stalking or hate incidents.
  • Relevant experience of providing one to one support to people with complex mental health conditions
  • Experience of using counselling/advice and guidance skills to a high level in sensitive and complex cases
  • Experience of risk assessment, risk management and of responding pro-actively to mental health emergencies
