St Catherine’s College proposes to appoint a 4.5-hour Lecturer in Computer Science (3.5 hour Stipendiary Lecturer and 1 hour Class A, non-Stipendiary) with effect from 1st October 2026. The Lecturership will be for one year in the first instance to partly replace the teaching stint of a vacant permanent position and to cover a period of sabbatical leave. Strong applicants who cannot commit to teaching the full stint may be considered as part of a job share application or through a joint appointment.
The Lecturer will be expected to teach 4.5 weighted hours a week averaged over the three terms (twenty-four weeks) of the academic teaching year (the College operates a weighting system whereby hours spent teaching groups larger than one person count for more than one hour). College teaching is in small groups (usually two or three students). The post-holder will provide teaching in the following areas:
Models of Computation, Computer-Aided Verification, Introduction to Proof Systems, Logic and Proof.
The postholder will provide tutorial sessions and revision classes for the above modules. In addition, as a member of the team of Engineering tutors, the post-holder will be expected to play a full role in the running of Engineering in the College, including arranging tuition in Engineering, participating in the admissions process, setting and marking College examinations, and taking a role in the pastoral care of undergraduates.
Informal enquiries about the tutorial teaching requirements may be made to Dr Christoph Haase (email: Christoph.haase@stcatz.ox.ac.uk).
The annual stipend for three terms is currently £9,883 and is pensionable. The Termly retainer is £134 per term. The Lecturer will be a member of the Senior Common Room and will be entitled, free of charge, to three meals per week (one of which may be lunch) during Term and the Entrance Period. The College can provide teaching rooms that can be booked via the College’s online room booking system.
