We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior IT Technician to join the Faculty of Engineering and Science technical support team. This SG7-level role combines hands-on technical expertise with supervisory responsibilities, supporting advanced teaching, research, and innovation activities across the Faculty. The postholder will lead the specification, procurement, deployment, and lifecycle management of specialist engineering and scientific equipment, including the modernisation of legacy systems, while managing the acquisition and deployment of specialist software in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Acting as a technical expert, they will assess user requirements, develop technical standards, procedures, and documentation, oversee service delivery and incident resolution in line with agreed service levels, and provide strategic guidance to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and effectiveness of technical services. The role also includes maintaining oversight of specialist equipment inventories, producing service and performance reports, and supporting the development of staff, systems, and processes to ensure an exceptional experience for students, researchers, and academic colleagues. 

We welcome applications from candidates with: 

  • Extensive experience supporting IT infrastructure, specialist software, technical facilities, and equipment lifecycle management within a scientific, engineering, or research environment.
  • Strong technical expertise in either:
    • Configuring, integrating, and supporting specialist hardware, software, networked systems, & legacy technologies or;
    • Configuring, utilisation and maintenance of specialist chemical/biological equipment and software in a wide range of techniques including Chromatography, XRD, NMR, spectroscopy, qPCR, Microscopy & many more.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide expert technical guidance & deliver high-quality support.
  • Experience leading technical projects, driving service improvements, managing competing priorities, &  enhancing operational efficiency. 
  • A proactive, customer-focused approach, with experience mentoring technical staff and a commitment to continuous professional development, innovation, & the adoption of emerging technologies. 
  • The ability to combine advanced technical expertise with leadership and project delivery skills to support teaching, research, and the ongoing development of technical services.
