Overview of the role:
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Professor Stephanie Cragg’s research group on a Parkinson’s UK-funded project investigating receptor neuromodulation of dopamine neuron physiology. The successful candidate will study how non-canonical glycine receptors influence midbrain dopamine neuron function and dopamine transmission in health and animal models of Parkinson’s disease. This full-time post is available from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2029.
Key responsibilities:
• Work with the grant holders to deliver high-quality research using real-time electrophysiological and imaging techniques to record dopamine neurons and dopamine release in ex vivo brain slices.
• Apply complementary methods including stereotaxic intracranial vector delivery, pharmacological manipulations, systemic dosing, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and molecular analyses of animal and human brain tissue.
• Help manage and genotype transgenic animal colonies and Parkinson’s disease models.
• Contribute to the training and supervision of other group members.
Selection criteria:
• Hold, or be close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant area of neurobiology or neuroscience.
• Expertise in electrophysiological recording techniques in animal model brain slices.
• Experience investigating central nervous system circuits and conducting stereotaxic surgeries.
• A strong publication record demonstrating originality, creativity and productivity in neuroscience research.
• Commitment to open science practices.
