Lecturer in Small Animal Community Practice

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced veterinary surgeon (MRCVS) with a passion for inspiring undergraduate students in all aspects of small animal practice but especially surgical skills.  This is a part-time position that could suit those wishing to work with students whilst maintaining a clinical role.

The primary focus of the role will involve supervising students at the off-site neutering clinics, in conjunction with other veterinary surgeons and an RVN. The neutering clinics are stand-alone clinics run in conjunction with our partners, and provide invaluable experience for 4th year students, enabling them to enter final year rotations and general practice with confidence in routine surgery. The role will also support clinical teaching across the curriculum, preparing our students for their final year rotations.

The successful candidate should be confident in procedures in elective surgical neutering and have a good knowledge of veterinary anaesthesia in cats and dogs. Candidates will have enthusiasm for sharing their clinical experience and knowledge, giving students the confidence to perform surgical procedures and manage surgical cases. A teaching qualification is not essential but prior experience of teaching veterinary undergraduates would be an advantage. Those with extensive experience of supporting new graduates are also encouraged to apply. 

Enthusiasm and a willingness to work flexibly and to adapt to teaching creatively in a range of different contexts are essential, alongside excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.  

This 0.5FTE post is 2.5 days a week and specifically requires availability on a Tuesday and Wednesday in term time. The other time can be agreed. 

About you

All candidates must hold a veterinary degree and be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS). Candidates will have demonstrable clinical experience and practical competencies in small animal practice.
