Job description:

Ready to take your IT Support career to the next level in Cyber Security?!

We’re recruiting a Senior IT Technician - Cyber Security at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (part of the University of Sheffield) in Rotherham.

In this brand-new role, you won’t just be closing tickets. You will work closely with our Cyber Security manager to evolve how we implement organisational cyber security controls on our endpoints across our sites in Rotherham, North and South Wales, and the North West of England. You will play a lead role in activities relating to our Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation, as well as on future industry or internal standards to which we must comply.

You will play a big part in connecting our IT Support team with information security colleagues both locally here at the AMRC, and centrally at the University of Sheffield. Shifting our IT Support team from reactive fixes to more centralised, proactive responses to security and compliance challenges is going to be an important part of this new role.

This role is exceptionally meaningful to the AMRC. You will lead on endpoint compliance and support, as well as supporting colleagues to handle security incidents and mitigate threats.

You will work closely with our IT Systems Managers to better use central tools including; KACE, Intune and Group Policy in order to centralise activities such as configuration, policy changes and software compliance. Your work will protect the AMRC laptop, desktop and mobile estate, reduce repeated one off support tickets and allow colleagues in IT Support to focus on providing the best possible IT support service to our users.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Take the lead on cybersecurity and endpoint compliance tickets within our service desk (TOPdesk).
  • Collaborate with the AMRC Cyber Security Manager, AMRC Systems Managers and University Information Security colleagues.
  • Automate and centralise fixes to reduce recurring IT support incidents.
  • Develop clear documentation and SOPs for the wider IT team (and end users).
  • Apply security standards within projects at the AMRC, some of which may require bespoke security arrangements and processes (versus the rest of the business).

If this piques your interest, and you are an adaptable, visible IT professional who thrives in a fast paced and innovative environment then please take a moment to apply.

We offer a phenomenal range of benefits including a highly competitive annual leave entitlement (with the ability to purchase more), a generous pension scheme, flexible working opportunities, a dedication to your development and wellbeing, a wide range of retail discounts, and much more!
