We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join Dr Ricardo Fernandes’ group at the CAMS Oxford Institute. The project sits at the interface of protein engineering and immunology, focusing on the design, production and characterisation of novel engineered proteins that modulate cell-surface receptor signalling relevant to myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), with the potential to inform new therapeutic approaches.
The aims of this project include (1) to design and engineer a panel of recombinant protein reagents against selected cell-surface targets, (2) to establish robust expression, purification and quality-control pipelines suitable for downstream cellular and biophysical work, (3) to characterise the binding and functional properties of these molecules using biophysical and cell-based assays, and (4) to share reagents and findings with collaborators within the funded programme. This work has the potential to define new approaches for the therapeutic modulation of [disease-relevant signalling] and to generate reagents of broad value to the field.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing recombinant protein expression and purification approaches, producing and validating bispecific proteins, and establishing functional assays to characterise candidate proteins. The role also involves designing experiments, analysing scientific data, troubleshooting technical challenges, maintaining accurate research records, contributing to publications and research proposals, and collaborating with colleagues and external partners.
It is essential that you hold, or are close to completing, a PhD/DPhil in immunology or a related field, with experience in immune cell culture and functional assays, recombinant protein production, bispecific protein design and validation, protein-protein interaction analysis and multicolour flow cytometry. Candidates should demonstrate strong research, collaboration and communication skills, initiative and excellent record keeping. Experience with primary immune cells, proliferation assays, human sample processing or high-resolution imaging of proteins on live cells would be advantageous. You must have a proactive and adaptable approach to work and willingness to collaborate and provide scientific and workplace guidance to research assistants and students. Excellent record keeping, careful methodological work skills and the ability to meet deadlines are essential
