The University is looking for a Research Associate who will make a leading contribution to a 3-year project (The legal world of teachers: Understanding the impact of juridification on teacher professional practice) working with Dr. Mark Murphy, Professor Chris Gill and Dr. Andrew Wilkins.

This project examines the under-researched impact of law on teacher professional practice in English schools through the concept of juridification, whereby legal processes increasingly shape educational activity. Despite a substantial expansion of education legislation, statutory guidance, and legal challenges relating to areas such as equality, human rights, and SEND provision, little is known about how these developments affect teachers’ work. Using a mixed methods design, the study will investigate where law intersects with professional practice, assess its effects, compare experiences across England, Scotland, and Sweden, identify approaches for managing legal-professional tensions, and contribute to the theoretical development of juridification while informing policy and practice.

The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Mark Murphy on Mark.Murphy.2@glasgow.ac.uk
