The Opportunity

We're looking for a Senior Web Developer to help lead the continuous development and ongoing support of the University's central web services, principally the Web Publishing Platform (EdWeb 2) — the open-source, Drupal-based service behind nearly 170 environments and over 600 subsites, curated by more than 1,200 editors and reaching around 30 million users a year from across the world.

This is a senior, technically leading role. You'll set technical direction, architect and build complex enterprise-level features in Drupal, and champion the development, testing and coding standards that keep a platform of this scale robust. You'll also mentor and support the mid-level and junior developers around you — sharing knowledge and helping the whole team deliver high-quality software "small and often", through an agile, continuous-improvement approach.

You'll join the Website and Communications (WAC) team, a highly collaborative and supportive part of Information Services. We work in the open: EdWeb 2 and the University's Student & Staff Portal (MyEd) are both built on open-source software, reflecting the University's commitment to open software and data across its services.

We'd love to hear from someone with deep Drupal and PHP expertise and strong front-end skills, who's a creative, adaptable problem-solver with a genuine enthusiasm for emerging technologies and for bringing them into mainstream use, someone excited to shape a platform the whole University relies on.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns, such as compressed hours or longer breaks in the working day.

The role follows a hybrid working pattern, combining time working from home with regular time on campus: we ask that colleagues spend at least two days a week on-site, one of which is our shared team anchor day, so the team can collaborate, support one another and stay connected in person.
