Integration Developer

About the Role
This role sits within IT Services and joins the team building Queen Mary University of London's new event-driven integration platform. The platform connects the university's core systems across student records, finance, HR and payroll, research administration, library and curriculum, identity and CRM, alongside a wider set of operational systems, and supports a large estate of flows between these systems and the downstream applications that depend on them.

About You
The Integration Developer is an experienced software engineer responsible for building and maintaining integrations across the university to a high standard, with peer review and engineering rigour a core part of day-to-day work. The postholder will work primarily on the new event-driven platform, designing event flows, connectors and integration services that move data reliably between systems.

This is a hands-on, senior development role focused on event-driven integration. Alongside day-to-day delivery, the postholder is expected to vet integration patterns, take a leading part in pull request review and drive continuous improvement in how the team designs, builds, tests and operates integration flows. The emphasis is on backend work in Go and Python, including connectors, transformations and event-processing services.

The postholder will hold a Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience.

About the Department
The Integration Developer will join a small, high-impact engineering team within IT Services and will work closely with other developers to set and uphold engineering standards across integration work. The role is one of the senior engineering voices in that team, working alongside the Head of Engineering and peer developers to shape how a still-evolving platform is built. The postholder will containerise and deploy their services using Docker and Kubernetes, with support available from the wider team. This is not a platform-engineering role. The role reports to the Programme Director for AI Automation, Apps and Strategy.
