Postdoctoral Research Associate in Fungal Genetics and Molecular Diagnostics

About the Role
Help tackle one of the world's fastest emerging drug-resistant fungal pathogens…An exciting opportunity is available for an ambitious postdoctoral researcher to join a multidisciplinary team investigating the emergence of Trichophyton indotineae (Ti) - a multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen that is rapidly spreading worldwide and is now a major public health challenge.

Based at the Blizard Institute, Queen Mary University of London, with close collaborations across Barts Health NHS Trust and Imperial College London, you will work at the interface of genomics and antimicrobial resistance, molecular diagnostics, and clinical epidemiology, helping to develop new tools that could transform the diagnosis and surveillance of Ti. East London is currently at the centre of the UK's outbreak, offering a unique opportunity to undertake research with immediate clinical and public health impact.

About You
You will have a PhD (or near completion) in microbiology, mycology, molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, infectious disease epidemiology or a related discipline. Have experience with molecular biology and next-generation sequencing. Have strong computational skills (e.g. Linux, R, Python). An interest in microbial genomics, antimicrobial resistance or infectious disease research. Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for collaborative, translational science.

About the Institute
The Blizard Institute was established in 2003 and is one of six institutes within the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, QMUL. The Institute is comprised of staff based in five academic Centres and one Public Engagement Centre and supports a combined total of c700 postgraduate research and taught students. The Blizard constitutes a world class biomedical research institute that integrates all stages of research from basic science through to clinical studies across a diverse range of fields including genomics, cell biology, translational immunology, neuroscience and trauma. Our research addresses the health needs of our local population, while delivering new treatments on a global scale and aims to deliver excellence in all aspects of research, teaching and clinical service.
