Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Primary Education (Teaching Focused Contract)

The Primary Education Department in the Institute of Education seeks an organised and innovative individual for the position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Teaching) in Primary Education (Core Subjects). Ideal candidates will have expertise in teaching Primary English and Mathematics but also offer flexibility to teach across the Primary subjects as required. Experience in the early years curriculum for these would also be welcomed, but not essential.

We welcome applications from school colleagues as well as those already working in ITE. The successful appointee will have significant and relevant primary teaching experience along with some successful experience of initial teacher education, teaching in Higher Education or teaching adults.  

The successful applicant will contribute to subject and module leadership, course development and teaching in their specialist area, on our range of undergraduate and postgraduate ITE courses as well as on postgraduate professional development programmes for teachers and other professionals working with children. In order to maintain our strong reputation for and commitment to an excellent student experience we are seeking an inspirational teacher for this role who can model excellent practice in their teaching and inspire trainee teachers to achieve their potential in the classroom. 

Selection Process:

• Teach a 20-minute core subject session for level 5 Initial Teacher Education students.
• Formal interview

Teaching Activity (20 minutes):

Choose an aspect of English or Mathematics which you think is key for a teacher education and training programme. Lead a 20-minute session for the panel with level 5 students where you demonstrate your own knowledge in the subject, show how you make this topic accessible and relevant for the student teachers. Relate it to pedagogical approaches and practical activities for the classroom, including inclusive practice. 

Formal interview: 

Be prepared to respond to a range of questions about how your skills, qualifications and experience relate to the role, job description and person specification.
