About the Role
The role is currently offered until 31 October 2027, but may be extended, subject to agreement by the funder.
The post holder will join the Tissue Image Analytics (TIA) Centre in the Department of Computer Science under the supervision of Dr Shan Raza and play a key role in the NexGenDx (Next Generation Diagnosis in Haem oncology) project, a Cancer Research UK (CRUK)Funded translational research programme aimed at transforming the diagnosis of haematological malignancies through multiomic multiplex imaging (MPI) and computational pathology. The NexGenDx project is led by Dr Matthew Pugh at the University of Birmingham, alongside academic and industry partners including the University of Warwick. The project focuses on developing and clinically validating a next generation diagnostic workflow based on high plex immunofluorescence and RNA in situ hybridisation data generated using the Lunaphore/BioTechne COMET platform. This platform enables dozens of antibodies and gene probe markers to be measured simultaneously on a single formalin fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) tissue section, producing high dimensional image data that requires advanced computational analysis for effective interpretation.
The role will contribute to the development of a Python‑based analytical pipeline and an interactive, web‑enabled user interface to support quantitative and AI‑assisted assessment of COMET‑derived MPI data. The role will involve working with large and complex imaging datasets, implementing and integrating computational pathology algorithms, and translating analytical outputs into intuitive, clinician‑facing visualisations to support diagnostic decision‑making.

About You
The post holder will work closely with Dr Shan Raza and a team of researchers at the VISION Lab, TIA Centre based at Warwick, clinical haematopathologists at the University of Birmingham, and wider project collaborators, ensuring that the software tools developed are robust, interpretable, and aligned with real-world clinical workflows. Development will leverage and extend established opensource infrastructure, particularly TIA Toolbox, alongside custom Python development and modern web technologies for data exploration and interactive visualisation.
About the Department
