About us:

The Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences (FANS),  in the School of Academic Psychiatry at the IoPPN,  is one of Europe’s largest research groups and one of the few teams in the world bringing together leading experts in brain development and pro- and anti-social behaviours.

About the role:

This maternity leave cover post for a Clinical Lecturer in Forensic Psychiatry is a one year full-time position in the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London (IoPPN-KCL), based within the Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences. The 10 session post will be split 50:50 between academic sessions (5) with the Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences department at KCL and consultant forensic psychiatric sessions (5) within forensic services at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust.

Academic sessions: This is an exciting opportunity for a person with an emerging research profile to shape the King’s Health Partners’ research strategy for mental health in adults with neurodevelopmental disorders and offending behaviours. The successful applicant will develop a novel research programme exploring the use of  restrictive community treatment frameworks with a view to completing a higher research degree (MD(Res)). The post holder will be expected to develop high standing at the national level in research as established by an outstanding contribution through publications and grant funding.

The successful applicant will contribute to the educational programmes offered by the Department. It is crucial that the successful applicant helps in the successful delivery of our existing Forensic Mental Health MSc and develops their own teaching and training portfolio. The successful applicant will lead Module 2 on the Forensic Mental Health MSc (Clinical Forensic Services).

Clinical sessions: The successful applicant will be a consultant in forensic psychiatry with the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust, working in the Ward in the Community (WiC), a locked forensic rehabilitation ward at Lambeth Hospital. The 5 clinical sessions will consist of 3.5 direct clinical care sessions, and 1.5 sessions for supporting activities. The Ward in the Community is a 13-bedded male locked forensic rehabilitation ward and the only non-secure forensic inpatient ward in SLAM. It provides an important bridge between secure services and community services, focusing on treatment with ‘least restriction’, ‘testing out’ and ‘positive risk taking’.
