We are seeking to appoint a Professor in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Huddersfield. This strategic appointment offers the opportunity to shape future research, strengthen preparations for REF 2029 and contribute to curriculum development in Artificial Intelligence and related areas.
You will join an ambitious academic community committed to computer science research with real-world impact. Working across relevant research areas and with internal and external partners, you will advance high-quality, collaborative and impactful research in Artificial Intelligence.
You will provide academic leadership in Artificial Intelligence by building research capacity, developing ambitious external funding activity, supporting high-quality outputs and strengthening research impact. You will lead coordination of the Unit of Assessment for REF 2029, working closely with senior academic leaders and colleagues across relevant research groups.
You will also help shape our taught portfolio, advising how developments in AI, national digital skills priorities, employer needs and the changing recruitment market should inform a state-of-the-art, research-informed student experience.
With a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science or a closely related area, you will have a sustained record of internationally excellent research, successful external funding and academic leadership appropriate to Professorial level. You will have led research groups, centres, themes or major collaborative projects and demonstrate academic, industrial, policy or societal impact.
You will have experience of doctoral supervision and a strong commitment to developing colleagues and research students through mentoring, collaboration and inclusive leadership. Experience of REF, Unit of Assessment coordination, research environment or impact development, or equivalent research assessment activity, would be particularly valuable. You will also contribute to curriculum leadership, ensuring students engage with contemporary AI knowledge, professional practice, responsible innovation and the skills required for a rapidly changing digital economy.
The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging.
