The School of Medicine wishes to appoint a new Clinical Lecturer/s (Education Focused). Appointment at Senior Clinical Lecturer may be possible, dependent on experience. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will be embedded in the delivery of undergraduate medical education at St Andrews, including the exciting new MBChB (ScotCOM). They will have access to potential future development opportunities within the School, and be involved in School education functions across years, aligned to an Education Focused Clinical Lecturer position.
St Andrews School of Medicine is at a pivotal time, delivering the innovative MBChB (ScotCOM), alongside a well-established BSc (Hons) and working in partnership with the University of Dundee in the co-delivery of the graduate entry programme, ScotGEM. It is at the forefront of community based medical education and is known for high student satisfaction.
The role holder/s will have significant opportunity to contribute to the leadership, design and delivery of MBChB (ScotCOM). This is a community orientated five-year programme, promoting general-ism alongside secondary care exposure, ensuring to place patients at the centre of the students’ learning. The inaugural cohort commenced in 2023, and will graduate in 2028, with a target of 55 students per academic year.
Successful applicants will be engaged in the creation of clinically orientated modules, ensuring a high-quality experience, meeting GMC accreditation requirements. They will work as part of a core team focusing on MBChB (ScotCOM) and on delivering teaching excellence across the range of undergraduate medical programmes.
Role holders will work for the School between two and four days per week, with flexibility within FTE to facilitate clinical working. We request candidates state preferred sessional commitment within their application. An additional 0.5FTE is also available on a fixed-term basis for 12 months. Candidates should indicate in their cover letter if they wish to be considered for the fixed-term role, as well as the open-ended vacancy.
The candidate should be clinically qualified and can be from any clinical background for the posts, i.e. from any Secondary Care specialty or General Practice / Primary Care. Candidates must be practising in a substantive clinical post to qualify for the Clinical salary scale. This will be discussed at interview and prior to any offer of employment NHS Fife clinical sessions may be available if required, and potential opportunities could be discussed where relevant.
Excellent teaching skills and an interest in promoting knowledge exchange are essential.
Informal enquiries can be directed to the Deputy Head of School (MBChB Programmes) and MBChB Programme Director; Dr Rebecca Walmsley (ram29@st-andrews.ac.uk).
