CVM is renowned for its excellence in translational and clinical cardiovascular research, delivering innovative studies that improve patient care and outcomes worldwide.
About the role
As Research Assistant, you play a key role in supporting Professor Keith Channon and Dr Tanveer Tabish to investigate nitric oxide-releasing nanomedicines for cardiovascular therapeutics. The work will focus on cell culture, functional and molecular assays, microscopy and ex-vivo vascular studies.
Responsibilities will include measuring nitric oxide-dependent signalling using cGMP assays and downstream protein readouts such as VASP phosphorylation, in addition to performing qPCR, ELISA, Western blotting, and RNA and protein extraction to investigate molecular responses and inflammatory activity. The postholder will work closely with laboratory researchers within a multidisciplinary environment.
About you
The successful Research Assistant must hold a relevant degree in biomedical sciences, cell biology, pharmacology, physiology or a related discipline, alongside relevant laboratory research experience. Experience in handling biological samples or tissues, with an understanding of sample traceability and the procedures required for safe and responsible laboratory work is also essential. Experience in primary endothelial cell culture, including HUVECs or other vascular cell models will be an advantage.
This is a full-time appointment on a fixed-term contract until 3rd October 2027. The Research Assistant will be based at the Centre for Human Genetics, OX3 7BN.
