The School of Natural Sciences, within the Faculty of Science, Business and Enterprise, is seeking a motivated Chemical Engineer to join its teaching-focused and research-active team. The successful candidate will contribute to high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Chemical Engineering and related disciplines. Courses taught can be viewed on the School of Natural Sciences website.
We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in chemical and/or process engineering, particularly in process modelling and simulation using software such as PRO/II or equivalent. Knowledge of biochemical engineering, industry experience, external partnerships, and expertise in areas including process design, process safety, thermodynamics and analytical techniques would be advantageous. The successful applicant will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate project supervision, supporting students in undertaking meaningful research. Candidates should hold a higher degree and have experience of teaching and/or training in classroom and laboratory settings, alongside a commitment to high-quality teaching and effective learning practices.
The successful candidate will join an active, teaching-focused School with a vibrant research environment. Recent research grants have been secured from both internal and external funding streams, supporting activity across a broad range of scientific disciplines. The School brings together chemical engineers, surface scientists, computational physicists, specialists in drug discovery, renewable energy, water treatment, energy-saving technologies, molecular biologists, veterinary scientists and forensic biologists, providing excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will have opportunities to develop their research interests independently and collaboratively as part of the School’s expanding research activity.
Based at the University of Chester’s Exton Park campus, the School benefits from well-equipped teaching laboratories, preparation rooms, research laboratories and modern teaching spaces. The campus is located close to Chester city centre and offers excellent facilities for both staff and students. We maintain strong links with industry partners including Autichem and Addison, Unilever, Thornton Science Park and RV Technologies, supporting research, industry engagement and outreach activities that enhance the student experience and help maintain the relevance of our programmes.
The School also works closely with Sichuan University of Science and Technology in China through the delivery of our Chemical Engineering BEng programme as part of a Joint Institute. Candidates should therefore be willing to engage with the Joint Institute in both teaching and research and support the School’s commitment to developing meaningful and long-lasting international partnerships.
The successful candidate will report to the Head or Deputy Head of the School of Natural Sciences. The post holder will be expected to undertake a postgraduate qualification in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education unless they already hold an equivalent teaching qualification or Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Applications from candidates wishing to work on a part-time basis will also be considered.
