Are you an ambitious academic leader in visual computing, computer vision, 3D computer graphics or spatial intelligence looking to make a global impact? We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the School of Computer Science at the University of Sheffield as a Senior Lecturer in Visual Computing and Multimodal Intelligence. If you are passionate about driving research at the convergence of core computer vision and large multimodal models, and thrive in a collaborative, world-class research environment, we want to hear from you.
We are looking for a visionary researcher who can bridge the gap between fundamental theory and practical implementation. You will have a proven track record of publishing in high-impact venues and securing significant research funding as a principal investigator (e.g. UKRI, EPSRC, Horizon Europe). Whether your expertise lies in multimodal AI, computer vision, 3D computer graphics, spatial intelligence or real-world applications across robotics and healthcare, you will lead a high-profile research programme that connects visual computing with adjacent clusters in speech, natural language processing, robotics and machine learning. You should possess a PhD in a relevant field and demonstrate the leadership skills necessary to mentor junior colleagues and supervise doctoral students to success.
The University of Sheffield is a remarkable place to work. Our people are at the heart of everything we do. Their diverse backgrounds, abilities and beliefs make Sheffield a world-class university.
We offer a fantastic range of benefits, including a highly-competitive annual leave entitlement (with the ability to purchase more), a generous pensions scheme, flexible working opportunities, a commitment to your development and wellbeing, a wide range of retail discounts, and much more.
As the University of the Year for Student Experience (Times Good University Guide 2026) and home to the UK’s #1 Students' Union, we provide an environment where both staff and students flourish. Find out more at sheffield.ac.uk/jobs/benefits and join us to become part of something special.
You will join the Computer Vision research group and act as a strategic bridge across the school. Our school is on a strategic mission to become one of the top five computer science departments in the UK, currently ranking eighth for our research environment. We pride ourselves on our deep industrial and institutional connectivity, with opportunities to collaborate with Sheffield Robotics, the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre, the Centre for Machine Intelligence, Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience, Insigneo, and national initiatives like the UK Open Multimodal AI Network.
In this pivotal role, you will shape the future of our curriculum, delivering core and specialised modules such as 3D Computer Graphics & Image Processing, and Computer Vision, while expanding high-quality dissertation supervision in high-demand areas like multimodal AI and spatial intelligence. This is a unique career move that offers you the platform to drive a national research agenda while benefiting from the University’s Academic Career Pathway, which provides a transparent framework for your professional growth and promotion to the highest levels of academia.
We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.
We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
