The University of Huddersfield’s Institute of Railway Research (IRR) provides specialist research and consultancy to UK and international partners. Our dynamic team consists of expert railway engineers and researchers, many of whom have extensive rail industry experience. The IRR has a long-term Strategic Partnership with the Rail Safety and Standards Board, which undertakes a range of railway engineering, safety and operations research projects on behalf of the GB rail industry.
We are seeking a motivated research professional to undertake the role of Deputy Partnership Lead. You will support the Associate Director (Enterprise and Industry Partnerships) in the delivery of all aspects of the RSSB Strategic Partnership. This will include providing technical leadership of projects and research project management as well as helping to build our future research portfolio and ensure that project outcomes create maximum impact in the rail industry.
You will need significant postgraduate experience of railway engineering gained in an industrial or academic setting, together with the proven ability to lead and deliver client and partner projects, working with a range of industry and academic stakeholders to solve key engineering challenges. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to foster strong long-term relationships with funders and stakeholders. The role would suit someone looking to build their career in research management, whilst retaining a hands-on involvement in technical work.
As a member of the IRR team, you will have access to over £15m of advanced full-scale test and computer simulation facilities and will contribute to the development of these.
