Job Summary
The Institute for Security Science and Technology (ISST) was established in 2008 as one of Imperial College’s founding Global Challenge Institutes; focusing on interdisciplinary science to tackle the world’s most challenging societal problems. Within the domain of security, the ISST acts as the focal point for multidisciplinary activities, a convenor of choice for its stakeholders, a hub for the formulation, development and application of novel scientific solutions and a trusted centre for the provision of independent scientific thought leadership, education, and advice. Working with the College’s Departments and spanning its Faculties, the ISST interfaces with a wide range of public and private sector stakeholders. It acts as a portal for scientific innovation that is aligned with the College’s strategic intent to catalyse leading-edge, high impact interdisciplinary research resulting in solutions of value to the wider population. It provides a trusted partner for government and industry, helping translate capability requirements into research programmes.
The ISST is seeking to appoint a Communication Manager responsible for driving the Institute’s communication output and marketing plan, developing and delivering a Communication Strategy which covers internal and external communication activities, to effectively manage, plan and deliver outputs to raise awareness of the Institute’s activities, strategy, objectives and goals.
Duties and responsibilities
The post-holder will devote considerable time to the management, development and maintenance of the Institute’s communications channels, including the website, social media channels, and bulletins and newsletters, with the prime purpose of proactively promoting and communicating news and information about our research and activities. Core aspect will be the communication and marketing of its ISST’s education programmes, specifically, delivering against ISST’s recruitment goals for the MSc Security and Resilience. They will also assume responsibility for coordinating and managing a variety of high-profile events and seminars, as and when required, for internal and external stakeholders.
This role requires an enthusiastic, self-motivated and highly competent individual with the ability to work on a number of concurrent projects. The post-holder must be proactive in their approach to their duties and be able to work with minimum supervision. The post involves a high level of interaction with staff of all levels as well as students, and the post-holder must combine a professional approach with a friendly and welcoming manner.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role. Staff working in roles that are suitable for hybrid working will normally be expected to work 60% of their time onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
