Teaching
The successful candidate will be expected to teach across the multimedia composition and music technology areas at the ANU School of Music, teaching component comprises the instruction/supervision of multimedia composition students at undergraduate, graduate and research levels. This will involve lab based instruction on a variety of software platforms including Sibelius, Logic and a limited amount of Pro Tools. Candidates will be expected to also have high level notation skills and experience in writing music for multimedia, including but not limited to, games, film, television, and web based media.

The successful applicant will be expected to supervise Honours, Graduate and Doctoral research projects within the University.

Research
The successful applicant must demonstrate a strong research trajectory and plan. This will include both traditional and non-traditional research outputs that have a demonstrated national and potentially international impact. This may include the curation and execution of live performances, recordings, compositions, scholarly articles, book chapters and hybrid cross disciplinary works. The successful applicant will be highly engaged in wider national and international scholarly activities commensurate with their area(s) of expertise, including organisations and affiliations with societies. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong scholarly and professional network.

Service
The successful candidate will be expected to effectively contribute to School and college level committees, working groups, and outreach activities as required. This will include membership of either the School education or research committee.

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

Essential: 

  • A PhD or DMA in music or cognate discipline.
  • Demonstrated high level teaching experience.
  • Scholarly and professional experience in one or more of the following:

Multimedia composition including but not limited to: film, television and video games, and other online media. Music technology including but not limited to sound recording, mixing and software skills in Logic, Pro Tools and Sibelius with a capacity to learn other programs as required.

  • Experience in the commercial music industry
  • High-level proficiency in music notation (jazz and contemporary and/or classical) and music notation software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (English), and highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies, and a commitment to their application in a university context.

Desirable: 

  • High-level instrumental or vocal performance skills.
  • Sound knowledge of, and ability to teach music theory.
  • A well rounded understanding of the role of music in the 21st Century, responding to both history and contemporary developments.
