Department of Education
Lecturer in Science Education
The Maynooth University Department of Education is a dynamic and growing department committed to developing innovative educational ideas, school-university partnerships, and close links with the community. It has 14 full-time staff and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to approximately 900 students, based on its research strengths in: Pedagogy and Innovative Educational Practice; Identity, Social Justice and Inclusion in Education; Human Development and Wellbeing. It offers Initial Teacher Education for post-primary teachers through the Professional Master of Education, the Bachelor of Science with Education, and the Bachelor of Mathematics with Education. Its postgraduate offerings focus on professional programmes in Leadership and School Guidance and Counselling, as well as offering a range of M.Ed. options and a PhD programme. It is home to the TL21 Research & Professional Development Programme, and to the cross-departmental Centre for Transformative Narrative Inquiry. The Department is also a co-founder of the new Research Centre on Public Education and Pedagogy. The Department is seeking to recruit a number of academic posts in the near future to build on its reputation and increase its capacity for growth at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as a Lecturer in Science Education. We particularly encourage applications from those whose research focuses on developments in Science Education in one or more of the following areas: sustainability, the environment, technology, and assessment.
The preferred candidate will be able to conduct innovative research in school-based and community contexts, and demonstrate a commitment to conducting national and international research. The person appointed will have a proven record of teaching, research, and publication, appropriate to career stage. S/he will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching programme of the Department, undertake teaching duties on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of Master’s and PhD students, and work collaboratively in supporting the collegial work of the Department. S/he will also be expected to assume the administrative duties of course leader for the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Mathematics with Education programmes.
